Southampton kicks off September with a sporting weekend

It is a weekend full of sports in Southampton! This Saturday, the city hosts Southampton Sporterium - a cycling festival with a day full of two wheel themed activities including chances for the whole family to participate and spectate. This Sunday, ABP Southampton Marathon takes over Southampton with a marathon, half marathon, a 10K, and a fun run. Come and show your support for our local cyclist and running enthusiasts as they take on these sporting challenges. Let us do the driving for you, and hop on one of our buses to the city centre!

With these sporting events comes some route alterations and diversions across the city. Take a look below to see how our services will be affected by the weekend's events.

Friday 3rd September (from 1800) and Saturday 4th September for Southampton Sporterium

Routes Diversions
Unilink U1

Buses will divert in both directions between Central Station and London Road via BBC Studios and Cumberland Place. Buses will not stop at Civic Centre or Cenotaph.

Unilink U2 Cenotaph bus stop will not be served.
Unilink U6

Buses towards the City Centre will divert from Royal South Hants Hospital via Dorset Street, London Road, Cumberland Place, Seacity Museum to ASDA. Buses will not stop at East Park Terrace, New Road and Civic Centre.

Buses towards General Hospital will divert via Cumberland Place, Brunswick Place to Royal South Hants Hospital. Buses will not stop at Civic Centre, New Road, or East Park Terrace.

Sunday 5th September for ABP Southampton Marathon

Routes Diversions
Unilink U1

Before 0730 / between 1300 and 1600 - Buses will not stop at Cenotaph, Giddy Bridge, Law Courts or College Place.

Between 0730 and 1300 - Normal route between Archers Road and National Oceanography Centre will not be served. Buses will divert from Archers Road via Jurys Inn and Kingsway to start and finish at Queensway. 

Between 1600 and 2000 - Buses will divert between London Road and Central Station via Cumberland Place and Seacity Museum. Buses will not stop at Civic Centre or Cenotaph.

Additionally between 0800 and 1500 in the Portswood Area - Buses will divert between Portswood Broadway and Highfield Interchange via Hampton Square/Langhorn Road/Burgess Road. The bus stops on Shaftesbury Avenue and Welbeck Avenue as well Jubilee Sports Hall will not be served.

Unilink U2

Before 1300 - Buses will divert between Mayflower Halls and Boldrewood Campus via Hill Lane. Buses will not stop at Cenotaph, London Road, or The Avenue.

Between 1300 and 1600 - Buses will divert between Mayflower Halls and Archers Road via Civic Centre, East Park Terrace and Jurys Inn. Buses will not stop at Cenotaph, London Road, Law Courts, or College Place.                                    

Between 1600 and 2000 - Buses will not stop at Cenotaph.

Unilink U6 Between 0730 and 1300  - The normal route between Royal South Hants Hospital and West Quay will not be served. Buses will divert from Royal South Hants Hospital via Kingsway to start and finish at Queensway.
