Unilink is offering free travel for current and veteran military personnel on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June to mark Armed Forces Day.
“People in this region are rightfully proud of our country’s military - as is our team here in Southampton,” said Unilink managing director, Andrew Wickham. “As part of this community, we are keen to show our support for servicemen and women.
“The work our troops have done in the past, and still do now, in unimaginably hostile war zones is incredibly humbling. And we want to recognise their efforts even in this small way to help them travel to events or to see family and friends on Armed Forces Day.
“On Armed Forces Day - Saturday 29th - and on Sunday 30th June when Southampton will be marking the occasion, we welcome all those wearing their military uniform, displaying medals, or showing their military ID card on board our buses, and they may travel for free with us all day.”
Many Bluestar and Unilink services will be affected by road closures and diversions on Sunday 30th June, as an Armed Forces Parade and Military vehicle cavalcade makes its way through the city centre to Guildhall Square where a day of celebrations including live music, a dog display and more.
