Do you use our U1, U6 or U9, Bluestar 2 or Bluestar 20 services?

This upcoming project will improve our services and your journeys on these routes...

As part of Southampton City Council's "Green City Plan", the Portswood Project has been launched to improve access to sustainable transport including public transport, walking and cycling and introduce a green space and a more attractive high street.

Part of the scheme includes introducing a bus gate that gives bus priority through Portswood Broadway.

Restricting through traffic in this area will improve the reliability of our services travelling to and through Portswood as currently the amounts of traffic and congestion do affect the running of our buses. Journey time will be reduced and reliability will be significantly improved whether you are heading to Portswood or through the area towards Southampton or in the Eastleigh/Fair Oak direction. Five services will reap the benefits of this project - U1U6 and U9  and the Bluestar 2 and 20.

The project will also make the area more pedestrian friendly and will make it a better environment to board and alight our services, and a more attractive place to visit.

At present it is still in the development stage and remains a proposal for the time being. Positive feedback on the proposal is key to getting such improvements implemented in the city and this is where you could make a difference. We encourage you to visit the council website via the link below to submit positive feedback on the scheme.
