Changes to U1 and U2 from Sunday 13 September

Following the announcement of the Mayflower Halls closure, we have been working with the University of Southampton to make some changes to the U1 and U2 to serve students now located in other city centre accommodations. The changes will come into place from Sunday 13 September.

U1

We expect that more students will be using the U1 after the closure so will be adding some additional journeys running from the City Centre to Highfield Campus to ensure everyone can get to lectures on time. These journeys will be throughout the day during the busiest times.

We will also be increasing the evening frequency Monday to Saturday from every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes up until 22:00.

U2

The U2 will have a route change in the city centre. Instead of starting/finishing at the North Side of Central Station and Mayflower Halls, it will run as follows in both directions:

Central Station South Side (Stop SF) > Civic Centre > Cenotaph > Current route to Bassett Green via Avenue Campus, Highfield and Glen Eyre.

Customers wanting to get on at Central Station will need to cross over to the other side of the train station using the foot bridge to reach stop SF. Mayflower Halls and Art Gallery stops will no longer be served.

Buses will run as frequently as every 7-15 minutes at peak times, with quicker journey times between the city centre and Highfield.

If you need to travel beyond Highfield Campus, please look for the U2B as not all U2 buses go that far.

  • U2: City Centre > Highfield Campus
  • U2B: City Centre > Highfield Campus > Glen Eyre/Cantell School
  • U2C: Bassett Green > Highfield Campus > City Centre
