ABP Southampton Marathon

89 days ago Wed 24th Apr 2019

Legs and shoes of people can be seen mid-run in the background, while in a white box it says 'Sunday 5th May', and in a yellow box it says 'Diversion and timetable information'. The ABP Southampton log is in the lower right corner.

Sunday 5th May sees the return of the ABP Southampton Marathon, half marathon, 10k road race and Fun Run in and around Southampton City Centre.

The event will significantly impact the running of most, if not all, of our services, with many roads closed throughout the day, so below is all our diversion and timetable information, so you can plan your day knowing when and where our buses will be.

Heading down to watch? Why not hop on a Bluestar or Unilink bus for hassle-free travel to the City Centre and no parking worries! Sit back and relax on board with USB charging ports and free Wi-Fi on all of our buses.

And if you are running or marshalling the event, how does FREE TRAVEL sound? Just show your entry details/ID card to our drivers when you board!

Here's how our services will be impacted on the day:

Saturday 4th May:

From 07:00 on Saturday 4th to 20:00 on Sunday 5th May, Above Bar Street between Civic Centre Road and London Road and Commercial Road between Above Bar Street and Havelock Road will be closed, affecting Unilink U1 and U2:

U1C will divert between London Road (Giddy Bridge) and Western Esplanade (Central Station), and will be unable to serve the Cenotaph and Civic Centre bus stops, but will serve the stop outside the Seacity Museum as an alternative.

U1A will divert between Western Esplanade (Central Station) and London Road (Giddy Bridge), and will be unable to serve the Civic Centre and Cenotaph bus stops, but will serve the stop outside the BBC Studios as an alternative.

U2B will divert between West Park Road (Mayflower Halls) and London Road (Giddy Bridge), and will be unable to serve the Art Gallery or Cenotaph bus stops. Your nearest stops are at Mayflower Halls or Giddy Bridge.

U2C and U6 services will be unaffected by these closures.

Sunday 5th May:

Unilink U1 in the city centre:

Unilink U1 and U6 in Portswood/Swaythling:

Between 08:00 and 15:00: A 'bus gate' will be in operation in Portswood to allow buses to cross Portswood Road at the junction with St Denys Road/Highfield Lane, when runners are not present. Services may encounter delays here.

Unilink U1 will divert in both directions between Highfield Interchange and Portswood Broadway via Portswood Road and Burgess Road (like U6).

Note: This means both U1A and U1C buses will be running in both directions along Burgess Road in Swaythling. If you are boarding in this area, please check the front of the bus or check with the driver if you are unsure.

Planning on using Bluestar, too? See how their services will be running.
