George Fair, the Operations Manager of Uni-link since 2002, has retired following a varied career in transport. In 1994 George completed 26 years in the RAF as a Squadron Leader with VC10s and Hercules transport aircraft. He then held various managerial roles with Stagecoach in Oxford, and the development of Oxford Tube Oxford-London coach service, then First in Glasgow before joining the original operator of Uni-link, Minerva Accord, in Southampton.

Alex Carter, Managing Director of the Go Ahead Group’s southern England based companies including Bluestar, that gained the contract to operate Uni-link last year, said that the operation owes much of its success to George’s insight and professionalism over the years.
“I’m confident that everyone involved with the Uni-link network will join me in wishing George a long and healthy retirement,” said Alex Carter. “We will continue to develop the strong partnerships that have enabled year on year growth on the network.”
The Bluestar and Uni-link team joined George to thank him for his hard work on his final day, as he was presented with various gifts including an i-phone, RAF scarf and a Uni-link bus cake.

Uni-link will continue to run locally by the dedicated Uni-link team of drivers and supervisors, led by Paul Weller, as Assistant Operations Manager who takes sole responsibility for the day-to-day operation of Southampton’s most admired transport companies. Paul has been with the company almost since day one and has played a huge part alongside George in building up the quality product passengers enjoy today.
